The frame does as much work as the stone here. A freeform amber teardrop — deep olive-green with dark inclusions — sits inside an ornate sterling silver border of small loops and beads, all heavily oxidised so the detail reads clearly against the dark recesses.
The looped border has a folk-art quality to it — intricate without being delicate, and very much in the Taxco tradition of treating the setting as part of the design rather than just a holder for the stone. The amber glows against all that dark silver in a way that makes both look better.
